Big Apple Author Event hosted by Southern Belle Book Blog

One of my favorite souvenirs to bring back from a signing, and now something I do with every one is to make a canvas like this and have authors sign it, highly recommend!

In October of 2017, I was lucky enough to be a volunteer for the Big Apple Author Event with my best friend, who flew up from where she lives in Mississippi to me, already in upstate New York, and together we traveled to NYC, if you’d like to see pictures from our travels, as well as pictures of NYC, click here. I don’t have a ton of pictures from this event, I think I was too shy to ask for pictures, which is so funny if you know me. I was also busy volunteering most of the day and unable to actually meet a lot of authors. I did, however, walk away with about 20 new books, lugging that bag around NYC was wonderful. Each Author I’ve met, if I’ve read a book of theirs, I’ll link it under their picture, noting if it’s a Kindle Unlimited book, as well as a link to their Goodreads account and website. If you have read one of the authors I haven’t I would love to know what your favorite or top rated is, leave a comment below and let me know!

Here’s a group shot of a few of the girls I met at the signing, save for my bestie next to me

The first author I walked up to was Harper Sloan, at the time I don’t think I had any idea who she really was, I knew of her name, sure, but I hadn’t read any of her books. To be honest, I just loved her hair, as someone who has had purple hair and will one day go back to it (at the time it was mermaid colors), I had to compliment her.

Since then I’ve still only read one of Harper’s books, Perfectly Imperfect, available in KU, but it was one of the most emotional books I’ve read, it really hit me in the feels.

Find Harper and all of her books on Goodreads, then jump over to her website to see reading orders, buy signed copies of your favorites and sign up for Harper’s newsletter!

Felicia Lynn is another author that I had no idea about before this signing, and still I have yet to read one of her books, please let me know if you have because I would love to read one of her books. She was so sweet in person and I just love that you can see she doesn’t have shoes on in this picture, admittedly I would do the same.

Find Felicia and all of her books on Goodreads unfortunately, I can not find a website for Felicia at this time, I will update if I find one!

Kandi freakin’ Steiner is up next. The first time I met her, and this is one of my favorite author meet stories to tell, I had no idea who she was, I knew she was an author, but the event we met at was a ‘signing’ for another author, Jillian Dodd, put on for just her facebook group and Kandi was in attendance, we even roomed together, but again I had no idea who she was. So, I was able to spend some time with an author and get to know her, even become friends with her and know her for who she was. Later I even bought 3 of her paperbacks, signed, and had yet to read them. So this picture was the second time seeing her, except for the picture at the start of this post, and she’s one of the sweetest, funniest people I’ve ever had the chance to meet.

Choosing a top rated book of Kandi’s to recommend is really hard because she’s such a phenomenal author, as well as such a fun and amazing person to converse with, but Weightless, available in KU, is the winner this time.

The badass Staci Hart is next, this was the first time I met her but the poor woman was subject to many of my fan girl messages before this and she took them like a champ! Honestly, I love her so, so much, if I could live next door to her and be her real life bestie, I would.

It’s really hard to choose a favorite book for any author, let alone one book in general. Note to the non readers, never ask a bookworm their favorite book, because we never know the answer to that. With that said, A Thousand Letters is my top rated Staci Hart book, I had so many emotions with this book.

Brittainy Cherry, one of the best soul crushers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in person. She has yet to write an actual Rom-Com, which she always says is next and I keep hoping for one, because it never fails that at some point in her books I end up sobbing, it happens so much that I started telling her she needed to supply me with tissues before I would read another book of hers, which was a lie, but it always seems like I have enough tissues, then I’ll read the book and before I know it I’m using my shirt, toilet paper or even paper towels. When I first met Brittainy, it was at this event, in the hotel lobby. She was walking through and I saw her, of course I knew what she looked like and I very much had a fan girl moment. “OHMYGOSH HI! I know you, but you don’t know me, or maybe you do but hiiiii!” and then I had her sign my arm the next day at the signing, but no, I did not get it tattooed.

To choose a top rated BCherry book is really hard, like it is to choose any top book, but alas, I have to go with The Fire Between High & Lo, available in KU, it’s such an emotional roller coaster. This was the first book that caused me to run out of tissues and I think most of that had to do with the themes of this book and what I’ve been through in my life.

RS Grey or, Rachel, is such a sweet person to talk to. I absolutely loved getting the chance to meet her, and her husband Lance when I was at this signing. I don’t have any funny meet stories for Rachel, however, her signature move with her covers grabs my attention with all of her books and that’s why I walked away with five of her titles from this signing.

With that said, I have to choose Scoring Wilder, available in KU, as my top pick for Rachel, it’s such a fun read, even if I do want to stab one of the characters every time I remember her.

Maegan Abel, the author with almost the exact same name as me, down to the letters, the only difference is her name is definitely pronounced as May and not Meh. Unfortunately, I only have this super blurry picture of us, and, I don’t even have a book to recommend. I didn’t realize until after the signing was over that the picture was blurry and I’m sad about that as I haven’t been able to see her again, hopefully one day!

Find Maegan and all of her books on Goodreads, unfortunately, I’m unable to find a website for Maegan at this time, I will update if I find one!

B. T. Urruela is the final author for this post, I have yet to read one of his books, despite meeting him twice. I don’t have much to say about BT, except that on my BAAE canvas, peeking out at the bottom of this picture is signed by him twice, because I had sent someone around with it to make sure it was signed and failed to see he had already signed it, mid signature we noticed and he said it was his future kids. I laugh every time I look at it.

Hey all, welcome to my blog! I'm Meagan and I live in Central NY, I've been reading since I was 14 years old and it all started with James Patterson's 'Sam's Letters to Jennifer'. I took the book with me every where I thought I might have a second to read. It's been my go to book as well and I can't imagine what I would do if I never read that. When I'm not reading, which is almost never, you can find me watching my favorite shows which include Bones, Vampire Diaries, Grey's Anatomy, Castle, The Originals, Once Upon A Time, NCIS, The O.C. and Hawaii Five-O! When ever I start a book, I'm almost always instantly hooked, I will stay up all night reading if I can't put it down just so I know the happy ending. My favorite authors include Julie Prestsater, R.S. Grey, Leigh Talbert Moore, Jenn Sterling, P.C. and Kristen Cast, Richelle Mead, Lauren Kate, Gillian Flynn, Kandi Steiner, Brittainy C. Cherry, Staci Hart, Molly McAdams and James Patterson. I always love learning about new authors and talking books, if you'd like to get in touch, feel free to send me a DM on either instagram or facebook.
