High school sweethearts. What a load of bull.
He might have been my first love, but it never meant I wanted to hear lyrics containing my name, love story, and *cringe* how I lost my virginity peddled out for the masses to digest.
Seven years later, and I’m still being haunted by his photo in every magazine, his music on every radio station. I thought breakups meant that you never had to see the person again. Especially when they ripped out your heart and made hamburger meat with it.
But when a chance encounter ends up going viral, I’m tied to him in a way I’ve always dreaded. And the last person on earth I’d want to spend an hour with, much less a lifetime, makes me an offer I can’t refuse. I might just be desperate enough to take it.

Dean

The girl in the song is real. And she’s made me a rich man.
I’ve been dedicating choruses to her for a decade, she’s the muse she never wanted to be. Off of our love, I’ve become famous … and a complete egomaniac.
When another one of my flings goes off the rails, and lands me in hot water with the media, my recording label is less than thrilled. And so comes the marching orders from my agent; devise a scheme to transform into a squeaky clean good guy.
Coming face to face with her is something I’ve only dreamed about. If not to win her back, then to at least apologize for the ways I’ve exploited her. Instead, I rope her into my madness, proposing a deal only a masochist would accept.

What makes you happy?
That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.
And then, I got in his car.
It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.
We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers.
One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.
Discovering his journal changed everything. I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that. I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.
Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

Unbreakable (Accidental Crush #3) by Adrienne Torrisi [Review]

Unbreakable (Accidental Crush #3)

Ashley Taylor and Todd Hamilton have made it through almost everything: secrets, lies, cheating. They know even the impending distance they will have to endure when Todd goes to college won’t truly separate them. Together they can handle whatever life throws at them… until something bigger than both of them threatens to tear them apart sooner than they ever expected.

Will they be able to prove their relationship is unbreakable?

This book picks up where Accidental Love left off, but it can also be read as a standalone.

Add to Goodreads

Ashley and Todd are back for more, which means we’re also in for it. This time, there’s even a scene in Ryan’s point of view, which if you really think about something like that, it can’t be good.

This time, Ashley and Todd’s parents have a few things to say about their relationship and I’m honestly surprised that it took this long since Todd is so much older than Ashley is, but alas, the title of this book is called Unbreakable for a reason. Unfortunately, that isn’t the only reason their parents have something to say, but they do make choices with out getting the full story.

I loved this continuation of Ashley and Todd’s story and I was happy when a few things happened, but I don’t want to spoil anything that’s of importance, especially because one of these events happens more towards the end than the beginning, just know it’s good.

Accidental Love (Accidental Crush #2)

What happens after the one night that changes everything? The night that turns your world upside down? The night that changes your secret crush into… your boyfriend?

Todd Hamilton is one of the most popular juniors in school, he’s a star athlete, lead singer of a band, and now he is Ashley Taylor’s boyfriend. She has known him her entire life, since he is best friends with her older brother, but she never really knew him. He is Gorgeous. Incredible. Perfect.

But what happens when you get everything you thought you wanted?

Can their relationship handle long distance this summer while Todd is away at football camp and Ashley is life guarding at the pool where an intriguing new boy is ready to take Todd’s place? Enter Casey – he’s rich, charming, and always gets what he wants. Ashley quickly learns there is an intense history of hatred between Todd and Casey and she is determined to find out why.

A secret brought Ashley and Todd together. Will a new secret tear them apart?

This book picks up where Accidental Crush left off. It can be read as Book 2 in the series or as a stand-alone novel.

Add to Goodreads

Ashley and Todd are finally together, things are looking up, not that they were ever really too bad. Unless you count watching someone you really like kind of be with someone else. I almost feel as if history is going to repeat itself…

When Todd, Ryan and Brian go away to summer camp and Ashley is stuck home working at the city pool with Todd’s nemesis quickly becoming her friend, can her and Todd last long distance? Long distance relationships can be easy, if you trust your partner. If you have trust and you’re a strong couple, you could fight through anything. If one person doesn’t trust the other, that’s when a relationship becomes rocky.

Of course those aren’t the only things that prove to cause a wedge between Todd and Ash. A vindictive girl who wants Todd all to her self tries to destroy the happy couple. Adrienne Torrisi did another great job making me feel everything Todd and Ash go through, also making the other characters come to life. I definitely felt sad when any one in this book did, so much that I cried a little too. I tend to cry a lot with the books I read, and I’m not ashamed to admit that.

Rusty Nailed (Cocktails #2) by Alice Clayton [Review]

June 24, 2014

*In this sequel to  Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the roller coaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.*

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY  bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

Add to Goodreads

When we meet up with Simon and Caroline again, they’ve been together for a year. Simon still travels doing photography and Caroline still works for Jillian at the design firm. Clive is also back, I love that cat, he still believes with 100% cat certainty that he is the man of the house and how else would a cat prove that? By continuing to mark his territory on Simon’s sweatshirt.

As it should be, there is still a lot of funny banter between the three girls, I don’t think this book would be the same with out the laughs, yet again I had tears running down my face and finding it difficult to remember how to breathe.

I’m really happy with the way this book turned out, we not only get to see more of Mimi, Ryan, Neil and Sophia, but we also learn more about Simon when it’s time for his class reunion. This causes Simon to confront some of the ghosts from his past as well as push him to think about what he really truly wants in life.

*For unknown reason Kobo & Google Play list this as book 3 in the series, while the rest of the retailers list it as book 2*

Accidental Crush (Accidental Crush #1) by Adrienne Torrisi [Review]

Accidental Crush (Accidental Crush #1)
Adrienne Torrisi
October 5, 2013

Sometimes you think you know exactly what life is going to be like and then something unexpected turns your world upside down.
Ashley Taylor is just starting her freshman year of high school. She’s certain this year will be exactly like every other. She’ll go unnoticed in the shadow of her older brother, Ryan, because he and his two best friends, Todd and Brian, are juniors as well as stars on the varsity football team. Everyone knows and loves them, while she is only a freshman; a nobody.
Ashley has known both of her brother’s best friends her entire life, however, she’s never really noticed Todd’s clear, blue eyes and perfectly messy hair until now. Unfortunately, he still only sees her as Ryan’s kid sister. Not to mention, he’s also her best friend’s older brother; so she needs to keep her true feelings a secret.
As she navigates her own, difficult feelings, Ashley learns that she’s not the only one keeping secrets, and if these other secrets get out, they could destroy friendships… maybe even lives.

Add to Goodreads

Life has a funny way of helping you grow up, like finding out you’ve been crushing on your older brothers best friend who just so happens to be your best friends older brother. Until Ashley started high school, she never really noticed how cute Todd was. But when Ryan ends up in the hospital and Todd is there to comfort her, she finds herself staring at him, lost in thought about how blue his eyes are.

Trying to keep a crush on your best friends brother hidden is not easy. Ashley can only talk to Shane about her crush, now that he knows. Even though Ashley and Sydney are best friends, she doesn’t exactly know how to tell her that she’s crushing hard on Todd, talk about awkward!  Can Ashley come to terms with possibly never getting a chance with Todd? Or will she tell him how she feels? Will they be able to have a go at a real relationship? These are things I wondered while I kept on reading this book.

As much as I do like this book, I have to admit that at times I felt like Adrienne didn’t put enough into the story line, some times I wanted to read more about Ryan and his issues or about Sydney. I really liked that not the entire story revolved around just Ash and Todd, they weren’t in some whirlwind romance that lasted a week where he already had professed his love, there was more to it than just them.

Wallbanger (Cocktail #1) by Alice Clayton [Review]

Wallbanger (Cocktail #1)
Alice Clayton
February 14, 2013

The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she’s gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor’s nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy’s athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly…

In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight…

Add to Goodreads

Caroline wakes up in the middle of the night to strange noises coming from her new neighbors apartment. Of course, it wasn’t just the one night, and that wasn’t the worst thing to happen. A newly hung picture falls off the wall, smacking her on the head, scaring her cat Clive and she finally gets fed up with the noises and storms over there.

Simon, oh Simon. I love him, he can cook and clean, he loves him some orange cranberry bread and apparently he can make girls “Meow” which is saying a lot. Simon and Caroline become friends, he rescues her from a flooding and she bakes him bread. A win-win if you ask me, I mean, have you ever had fresh bread?

Caroline, Mimi and Sophia have a friendship some would envy, I definitely laughed right along with them, sometimes with tears running down my face. When Clive chases “Purina” down the stairs, I couldn’t control the laughter. Trust me when I say this was a very entertaining read, steamy at some points but mostly I laughed to the point I could barely breathe.

Wallbanger can be read as a standalone novel! There is a continuation to Simon and Caroline’s story in Rusty Nailed and Last Call, so check those out. Other books of the series are for side characters.

The Sweetest Game (The Perfect Game #3) by J. Sterling [Review]

The Sweetest Game (The Game #3)
J. Sterling
December 25, 2013

It’s one hell of a sledgehammer to the chest when your baseball career comes to an end. It’s like you finally realize that baseball never loved you back. All the sleepless nights, the hours spent at the gym trying to stay fit, the conditioning, the training, the mental preparation, the holiday’s missed, the birthday’s passed, the memories you didn’t get to make with your family…all for what? It’s not like baseball lost any sleep over you. She didn’t stay awake for nights on end trying to figure out how to make you a better player. She didn’t care. Baseball’s a business. A sport. A game. And as much as my entire life has been wrapped up in it, it’s time to let it go.
– Jack Carter

*This is the third (and final) installment in Jack & Cassie’s story!*

Add to Goodreads

As you can tell by the synopsis, this is the third and final installment in Jack and Cassie’s story, but don’t worry because there is a big huge bow at the end. We do have Dean’s version of TPG, everything in his point of view in the fourth and final book surrounding Jack, Cassie and the whole gang in The Other Game.

Jack has a problem, it is every athletes worst fear, getting hurt to the point where you think your career may be over. I know some people say “it’s just a game”, but to be honest, that’s probably one of the worst things you can say. When you’re in Jack’s shoes and baseball is the only thing that made you happy as a kid, the one thing you have truly worked hard for, finding out you may be done for is absolutely heart breaking, especially if you aren’t ready to be done.

Cassie is a prime example of how a spouse should react to their partner getting injured, whether their career is a sport or they have a desk job, any type of injury is cause for concern. When you fall in love and marry someone as dedicated to a sport like Jack has been, you marry the sport too, an their worries are yours too. You worry when they get hurt, could this be a career ending injury? What will Jack be like with out baseball? It’s hard to imagine someone not doing what they’re passionate about. It’s even worse when you realize you never thought about it before. I think with any relationship, being positive for your partner is the best thing.

I was really pleased with the entirety of The Sweetest Game, I think this might be my favorite of the series, though I have yet to read The Other Game. Stay tuned for that review, coming…eventually.

The Game Changer (The Perfect Game #2) by J. Sterling [Review]

The Game Changer (The Perfect Game #2)
J. Sterling
June 25, 2013

Jack appeared at my door last night after six months of no communication wearing a Met’s jersey and holding a dozen red roses. He told me he was sorry, that he loved me, and that he would earn my trust again. It took everything in me to not fall apart at the mere sight of him. I wanted to take him back into my life, but I needed to know that this time it would be forever…

In J. Sterling’s highly anticipated follow-up to her USA Today bestselling novel The Perfect Game, Jack and Cassie quickly realize that their new lifestyle can often be cruel and unforgiving.

Their happiness is put to the test as the past is never truly far behind.

How do you stay together when the world’s trying to tear you apart?

Add to Goodreads

Although I ended my review of The Perfect Game saying you don’t have to read The Game Changer if you didn’t want to, I’m so happy to have another book about Jack and Cassie. I personally love when one book ends and the sequel starts right after.

Jack knew he made a major mistake, but Cassie is still in love with him, trying her hardest to forget what happened and move on with Jack in her life. He comes clean about everything that has happened in the last six months. Sometimes its hard to do the right thing, but this time Jack is determined to do right by Cassie.

Being Jack Carter’s girlfriend is much harder than Cassie would have ever expected, it puts her in the lime light, more than ever before, the “mean wives” at the games are just down right terrible towards her. It doesn’t get any better with googling herself, let me tell you, that is never the right thing to do when in a relationship with someone famous, like Jack.

Stay tuned, there is a third book and you should most definitely read it. I mean, you’ve come this far, you’re already invested in these characters, might as well find out what happens in the last one.

The Perfect Game (The Perfect Game #1) by J. Sterling [Review]

The Perfect Game (The Perfect Game #1)
J. Sterling
October 11, 2012

He’s a game she never intended to play.
And she’s the game changer he never knew he needed.
The Perfect Game tells the story of college juniors, Cassie Andrews & Jack Carter. When Cassie meets rising baseball hopeful Jack, she is determined to steer clear of him and his typical cocky attitude. But Jack has other things on his mind… like getting Cassie to give him the time of day.  They’re both damaged, filled with mistrust and guarded before they find one another (and themselves) in this emotional journey about love and forgiveness. Strap yourselves for a ride that will not only break your heart, but put it back together.
Sometimes life gets ugly before it gets beautiful…

Add to Goodreads

This is definitely a roller coaster ride of emotions, all up and then down. This book gave me all the feels, even though some I could have gone with out. I screamed, cried a little, had a strong urge to throw my kindle..You name it, I probably felt it.

Cassie, I love this girl, she’s tough but loving. Forgiving but doesn’t want to listen to the full story and explanation. She had her moments, like when she had to deal with her trust issues, but she pushed on through. Her heart was broken and damaged one too many times, by someone that a girl should be able to look up to, the first man a girl trusts, her dad.

Jack F’n Carter, the infamous baseball player. I love him, though sometimes I wanted to reach into my kindle and smack the back of his head. Jack was a jerk, swoon-worthy, cocky baseball player that almost everyone at school loves. Well, not just the school but most of the town as well. Baseball is Jack’s first love. Until he meets Cassie. All of a sudden, the playboy who never sleeps with the same girl twice, who never even calls a girl after their one night together, is falling hard and fast for the girl who doesn’t trust.  He has his faults, but he was trying really hard to be a different person for Cassie, to show her he loved her and that not everyone breaks promises so easily.

Jack is probably one of the most swoon worthy book boyfriends I’ve ever fallen for, except for the times I hated him, but even then he was still pretty amazing. I felt for him when he or Dean went into detail about the childhood they had and if it weren’t for Gran and Gramps, it would have been worse. I loved how when Cassie told him it was twenty five cents for every touch, he just laughed.

This book was written in a way where you do not need to read The Game Changer, Cassie and Jacks story does continue, as much as we all want a story for other characters (EHEM..) The Game Changer also gives you more of one of my favorite couples.
