Break Me (Brayshaw #5) by Meagan Brandy [Review]

Break Me (Brayshaw #5)
Meagan Brandy
November 19, 2020

I had a plan, and it was solid.

Track down what was hidden away and take pleasure in toying with it.

Toying with her.

That plan, it worked like a charm.

Until it didn’t.

Turned out, the feisty little thing I found was far from what I hoped for.

She was different from all I knew and more than I expected.

She was light, and I’m the bastard who led her into darkness.

But this girl… she followed with a smile.

I told her I break pretty things.

She asked me to promise.

Y’all. I’m going to try really hard to put into words how I feel about this book, because in all honesty, I love the whole Brayshaw clan and most of the side characters, but Royce Brayshaw? I was in love with him from the start of Boys of Brayshaw High and I knew I needed that broken boys story, and it’s very fitting that his story is last.

Ponyboy, Playboy, the lost Brayshaw, they’re all very fitting for him, especially because two of the nicknames were given to him and he’s usually the one giving others a new nickname. There’s a few more nicknames, but to state those now, for those who haven’t read the series, would be a spoiler and I usually try to keep my reviews spoiler free.

Y’all, this book killed me, I loved it so much and it honestly was the perfect way to end the Brayshaw series. So much happens with Royce and Brielle, with RaeRae, Maddoc, Cap, VicVee. To say Brielle can stand with the rest of them is a bit of an understatement because she’s also so very different from all of them. She’s had her fair share of crap thrown at her, but she still smiles and says hi to damn near everyone, it’s one of the things I loved about her.

Meagan did an outstanding job with bringing the feels, writing the best book possible for Royce and Brielle, and even leading into her next series, but I wont spoil that for you. If you like angst and broody bad boys, give the Brayshaws a chance to steal your heart.

Excerpt

“What do you know about being a BrayGirl?”

I open my mouth to respond, but he speaks again before I’m able.

“Be straight-up with me, little Bishop,” he warns. “No bullshit.”

Okay, fine.

I lay out what I’ve learned. “I know it’s what people call the girls who spend their nights with you or your brothers, or anyone who has earned the Brayshaw name.”

“Morning, afternoons, we ain’t picky on time of day, baby girl.” He’s angry and hard focused. “Keep going.”

“It’s a girl who is on lockdown. Untouchable to everyone, watched by all to keep her from doing things a Bray wouldn’t like or things she shouldn’t. Basically, she’s bound in bubble wrap, only to be undone by her man.”

“Temporary man,” he fires off.

“Right.” I shake my head in disdain. “Because she’s good enough for his bed, but not his heart.”

His jaw clenches. “You the type?”

“You’ll never know…”

Defenseman No. 9 by Xavier Neal [Cover Reveal]

DEFENSEMAN NO. 9 (The Hockey Gods Series #4)
Xavier Neal
December 3, 2020
Cover Designer: Dana Leah with Design By Dana

Once upon a time, the Vlasta Vipers hockey team was so incredible — on and off the ice — they were almost mythical.

Back then, they were the undefeated conquerors of the rink.

Coveted prizes for Puck Bunnies.

Their reputation was ironclad until the wrong skates landed on the wrong feet.

Wanted titles suddenly became dreams instead of reality, while the spotlight only seemed to capture their continued failures.

Puck Bunnies…well, they never stopped treasuring that particular stick no matter what the rankings were.

It took several years, a new no nonsense head coach, and a group of players willing to work harder than they could even comprehend to grab back the notoriety.

But they did.

And just because it’s summer doesn’t mean the city is done watching or caring about them.

Hugo Rhinehart, the team’s most famous defenseman – due to his enormous size and impressively stoic nature – is very aware of this, thanks to tickets to see him play in the volunteer league being repeatedly sold out.

As long as the attention is focused on his performance and not who he’s sleeping with, he’ll be fine.

As long as the crowd is more concerned about his hockey crew’s off-season shenanigans and not about the overdramatic ones of his best friend-turned boyfriend, he’ll cope.

As long as the gossip is about who he physically hurt in his jersey and not who’s emotionally hurting him, he’ll survive.

Will this big burly defenseman be able to defend his hard-earned position in both sports and romance, or will he have to give up the love of the game to keep the love of his life?

Bet the Farm by Staci Hart [Cover Reveal]

Have you heard Staci Hart is diving into small town romance? I cannot freaking wait to see what she does with a big, broody farmhand, a pint-sized city girl, and the dairy farm they’ve just inherited together. Hayloft kisses! Small town community! AND BABY COWS! What more could we ever ask for? I know I, for one, cannot even.

Bet the Farm
Staci Hart
January 26, 2021

Olivia Brent has one summer to save the dairy farm she just inherited.

But there’s one problem, and it’s not her lactose intolerance.

Jake Milovic.

The brooding farmhand has inherited exactly fifty percent of Brent Farm, and he’s so convinced the city girl can’t work the land, he bets she can’t save it in a summer.

Determined to prove him wrong, Olivia accepts what might be the dumbest wager of her life.

His strategy to win seems simple: follow her around, shirtlessly distracting her between bouts of relentless taunting. And it’s effective—if his dark eyes and rare smiles aren’t enough to sidetrack her, the sweaty, rolling topography of the manbeast’s body would do the trick.

What they don’t know: they’ll have to weather more than each other.

Mysterious circumstances throw the farm into disarray, and with the dairy farm in danger, Olivia and Jake have to work together. But when they do, there’s more to fear than either of them imagined.

Because now their hearts are on the line, and the farm won’t be the only casualty if they fail.

She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. The Christmas Blanket by Kandi Steiner [Cover Reveal]

Surprise! Author Kandi Steiner has a Christmas novella, The Christmas Blanket releasing November 5th, and we have the gorgeous cover!

From bestselling author Kandi Steiner comes a cozy second-chance romance about love, loss, and adventure…

When I decided to surprise my family in Wellhaven, Vermont for Christmas, I never could have known that I’d get a surprise of my own — in the form of an unexpected blizzard.

I haven’t been home in four years, not since I left this town with my eyes set on adventure.
And my heart set on forgetting the only man I’ve ever loved.

River Jensen — my ex-husband.

I don’t plan on seeing him during my visit. I definitely don’t plan on him saving me when my little rental car slides off the icy road. And the last thing I could have ever prepared for is being stuck in a tiny cabin with him, waiting out the storm.

Four years have passed since I’ve seen him — the boy I loved, now a man I don’t know at all.

But being stuck inside with him leaves us nothing but time together.

Everything about him has changed, and yet, he still has the same forest green eyes that have haunted me since I left. Back then, we were at an impasse. Back then, there was nothing left to talk about, nothing left to fix. Back then, the only choice I had was to leave and start anew.

But the more I re-discover the man I left behind, the more I question why I ever left at all.

And if I’m too late to find my way back home.

The Christmas Blanket is a stand-alone holiday novella set in a snowy small town in Vermont.

These are completely brand new characters who you’ve never met before. And this novella is a complete stand-alone!

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

Wrong For Me by Meagan Brandy [Review]

Wrong For Me
Meagan Brandy
August 22, 2018
[Previously published as The Wrong Blaze]

They say to keep your enemies close, but ‘they’ never had to deal with the likes of Alec Daniels, the broody bad boy next door who loved to make my life a living nightmare…up until the day he disappeared.

See, Alec was a thief.

He stole my happy.
My sanity.
My first kiss.

I told myself I was glad the day he went away, and I’m reminded of why not five minutes after his sudden and unexpected return.

Now he stands before me with a heavy glare and hard body.
But those greedy green eyes, they’re darker than I remember, and brimming with a secret…

A secret I didn’t discover until it was far too late.

Because this time, he didn’t steal a simple kiss.
This time… Alec Daniels stole my all.

Add to Goodreads

Does anyone else wish they were inside Meagan’s head for the entirety of her writing a book or is that just me? Because honestly, I would really love to know how she comes up with such a story line as the one for Wrong For Me.

I will admit that I’ve been going through a rough patch with reading but I think Meagan may have cured that, when I opened Wrong For Me and realized it started way back when Alec was just 10 years old, I knew it was going to be a good story, but I didn’t expect to be sucked in as much as I was.

With the prologue going back to Alec being 10, we know that he wants to be friends with Oakley, he saw her first after all. But that’s not how friendship or relationships work, so he becomes her enemy. He’s intense, always in the shadows, watching her and honestly, as creepy as that sounds writing it, he was watching to make sure she was okay. Always the alpha, always the protector.

Oakley is sassy and fierce as any heroine, she’s always kind of…I don’t want to say oblivious but… oblivious, but I can’t say I’ve never been oblivious before. And, as much as this story is in Oakley’s POV, it’s mostly for Alec, I think. He’s so intense, he knows what he wants and he goes for it. However unfortunate for him, Oakley is also not so easy to sway, not when they’re growing up and certainly not after Alec disappears for two years and shows back up just as unexpectedly.

Honestly y’all, this book is intense, just like Alec, its a page turner for sure. I was going to go for the ‘one more chapter’ thing and before I knew it, I had finished the book and it was midnight. Highly recommend this one, actually, I highly recommend all of Meagan’s books, but start with this one!

Pride and Papercuts (The Austens #5) by Staci Hart [Review]

Pride and Papercuts (The Austens #5)
Staci Hart
October 13, 2020

Hate is a strong word.

Depending on the company, loathe is a good substitute. Abhor might be a little fancy, but it gets the job done. But the word that really sums up how I feel about Liam Darcy is, without question, hate.

He doesn’t seem to think much of me either. The second he lays his fault-seeking eyes on me, he sets out to oppose me. Everything about him is imposing, as if he consumes the nearby air to power the rise and fall of his broad chest, and it’s clear he resents my presence on his advertising team. Every idea I have is shot down. Every olive branch I offer is set on fire by nothing more than the blistering coals he calls eyes.

In return, I light him up with my words.

It’s not as if he can dismiss me, since I work for his client, Wasted Words. Instead, he’s forced to tolerate me, which seems the closest we’ll ever be to friends. Fine by me.

I can be civil and still hate Liam Darcy.

But if there’s more to him than his exterior shows, I won’t be able to hate him at all.

I might stumble over that line between love and hate and fall right into his arms.

Okay y’all, I have to be honest, I watched Pride and Prejudice for the first time around July. I’ve never read any of Jane Austen’s books but if there was one person who could write a re-telling of Jane Austen’s stories, it would be Staci Hart. With that said, this story was amazing..even though she made me cry.

Laney was as fiery and sassy as Elizabeth Bennet is in Pride and Prejudice, no doubt about that. She loves her family fiercely and would go to war for them, I think that’s why I love the Bennet’s so much, they have this special bond only siblings can have. Being one of the oldest Bennet kids has to be hard too, but luckily she has Jett by her side and this book tells both of their stories so perfectly.

Liam Darcy, he’s portrayed in a way that shows the Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, who loves his family and will protect his sister at all costs, but tries his best not to overstep his bounds. Unfortunately for the two of them, they were forever bickering and I think that’s what makes their story so perfect. Staci didn’t butcher this re-telling, she didn’t rush the story of Darcy and Laney and we were able to see the rest of the Bennet’s, who we’ve met in the Bennet Brother books but if you haven’t read them, Coming Up Roses is the book to start with.
