No Way In Hell (Ink Well Chronicles #2) by Jordan Bates [Review]

No Way In Hell (The Ink Well Chronicles #2)
Jordan Bates
Romantic Comedy

March 23, 2018
Cover Designed by Kristen Hope Mazzola
Cover Model Ciara Nicole Bell

Two years.
Who kisses someone and then doesn’t say anything for two years?
Greg Moran, that’s who.

That kiss might not have started it all, but it sure did change everything. I thought I was living a simple life, keeping to my friends, eating pickles with ice cream, drinking bourbon on the weekends, and taking naps after work. Looking back at it all now, it was anything but simple.

What happens in Vegas was supposed to stay there.

But clearly, this time it wasn’t.I married Greg Moran.
My best friend. My boss.
The man who I had loved for five years.

Two years of silence broke me though. It caused me to do something no sane woman in love would do.

I asked for a divorce.

It took me a really long time to get to the Ink Well Chronicle books, despite being friends with Jordan since she started publishing, for no other reason than that I was reading other books and now I kick myself for not reading them as she released them because holy wow.

We first meet Greg and Lilly in Let Me In and you can definitely tell that Lilly has an attraction to Greg, we just didn’t know how deep it went until we read their story. They’ve been best friends for 5 years, hiding their friendship from their other friends because Greg is also Lilly’s boss and that’s just a whole mouthful to explain. Personally, I would have hid my friendship too, only to keep him to myself. Selfish of me? Probably, but I can’t say I care much. I also don’t have a best friend that’s my boss either so..

The drama in No Way in Hell is there, in full force, but at the same time it’s not too much and that’s just the way that I like it. Just enough drama to keep us turning each page but not too much to make us give up on the book. I will say that one of the reasons I love the Ink Well Chronicles is that they’re interconnected with all of the other characters. It’s one of the things I love about all of these series I read, to see how they’re doing, like we’re real life friends.

Jordan, she’s an incredible writer, she brought these characters to life in a way that is different from other books I’ve read, and I don’t say this because we’re friends, I would absolutely tell her if I hated them. They have real struggles, not made up ones that are so far fetched it’s obvious. But Lilly, well, I don’t want to spoil anything and explain why Lilly feels the way she does, but her life isn’t all rainbows and sunshine and that’s important to the story line.

Old Fashioned (Becker Brothers #4) by Kandi Steiner [Review]

Old Fashioned (Becker Brothers #4)
Kandi Steiner
March 19, 2020

The epic finale of the Becker Brothers series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone.

It’s a man’s world.

When I declared sports medicine as my major and every man narrowed their eyes, that saying proved true. It was true when my ex-husband decided I’d give up my career when our daughter was born. And again when I divorced the Chief of Police in our small town, and he made it painfully clear that I could leave him, but I would never be free.

Landing the job as the new athletic trainer for Stratford’s high school team is my chance to start over. And walking into a male-dominated sport and staff, I’m ready for the challenge.

I’m not ready for Jordan Becker.

The head coach of our championship winning team is a Herculean force of nature—as severe as he is determined. His icy blue eyes and permanent scowl drive the women in this town mad, and his quiet power and undeniable command conjure respect from every man.

When I join his team, I expect the doubt and anticipate the fight from him. And I get them both.

I don’t expect to form a friendship.

And I never expect to fall for him.

My breath catches when those cool eyes fall to my lips. My body comes alive when his is near. And as those lines begin to blur, every warning bell sounds.

My job, my reputation are on the line.
And my ex is around every corner, waiting to remind me of his power.

It’s a man’s world, and if I want to survive, I can never fall in love with Jordan Becker.

Even if he falls in love with me first.

Jordan. Freakin. Becker.

THE book we’ve all been waiting for, granted, we also wanted the other three books but this one answers all of our questions and I do mean ALL OF THEM. I for one, have definitely been pumped about his story from the get go, not because he’s adopted and may have had a harder life, but because I knew his story would be fantastic. And it was. Kandi has completely knocked it out of the park with his story, like she does with pretty much every story.

The angst, the heart ache, the steam. It’s all there in his story and I definitely believe it was worth the wait because with out the agony of having to wait, we wouldn’t appreciate the perfect specimen that is Jordan freakin Becker. The messages I sent Kandi while reading Jordan and Sydney’s story are possibly the most I’ve sent her with any book I’ve read and that’s definitely saying something, add to this the message I sent her when I finished the book and learned all of the truths? Trust me, you don’t want to miss his story.

While the description of this and all of the Becker books does say you can read them as complete stand-alones, I have to disagree because there is so much to discover about the Beckers, Scooters and the rest of the town that I feel you should read each book in order to get the full effect. But, that’s just my opinion.

Manhattan (Becker Brothers #3) by Kandi Steiner [Review]

Manhattan (Becker Brothers #3)
Kandi Steiner
December 9, 2019

MANHATTAN’ is a stand-alone, small-town, country romance in the Becker Brothers Series.

Everyone knows not to fall in love with your best friend.

But when your best friend is Michael Becker, it’s impossible not to.

He’s everything our town knows a Becker brother to be: devastatingly handsome, charming as a thief, and the icing on the cake — a sentimental musician who’s never without his guitar.

And he was mine. At least, that’s what I’d convinced myself.

Our bond was born in elementary school, strengthened by circumstance and the promise to always be there for each other, no matter what. And the best thing about my life was being friends with Michael Becker.

Until it was the worst.

I watched him fall in love with someone else, and helped patch him back up when she left him behind. But when he drops the bomb that he’s moving to New York, I realize it’s my last chance to tell him how I feel. And I ask him to make one more promise.

One summer. One list of adventures to remind him that our small town has more to offer than memories of the girl who left him behind.

One last chance to tell him I’m in love with him.

And I’m just dumb enough to believe that maybe he could love me, too.

Add to Goodreads

Mikeyyyy!

Oh how I love this kid, from the very beginning I could not wait to read his story, I knew it would be a captivating one, but just like his brothers he was a little stubborn and a lot frustrating.

The Becker’s are a one of a kind family, especially when it comes to the pain they still feel, and will always feel from their fathers unexpected death.

Kylie and Mikey have this epic friends to lovers relationship and I love it, not just because it’s one of my favorite genres to read, but they’ve both been through something similar with the loss of a parent and they’re both always there for the other.

But as always with a Kandi Steiner book, it’s not all sunshine and rainbow, but I wouldn’t wish it any other way. She makes us hurt, gives us a lot of feelings and maybe you’ll cry, but we also laugh and scream too. This is definitely one of my top favorites of hers and I can not wait for the conclusion of the Becker’s.

While the description of this and all of the Becker books does say you can read them as complete stand-alones, I have to disagree because there is so much to discover about the Beckers, Scooters and the rest of the town that I feel you should read each book in order to get the full effect. Neat (Becker Brothers #2) by Kandi Steiner [Review]

Neat (Becker Brothers #2)
Kandi Steiner
September 17, 2019

Neat is a stand-alone, small town, country romance in the Becker Brothers series.

My life is over.

I swore I would never work at the whiskey distillery with my last name on it, that I would never be a part of my father’s legacy. But when I graduated with my art degree and realized there were no jobs, the devil appeared, and I sold my soul, agreeing to work in the family business if he’d give me the art studio I’d always dreamed of.

It can’t be that bad, I thought.

Until I realized my new boss was Logan Becker.

The Becker brothers have a reputation for being trouble, and since I love trouble, it’s no surprise to me that I’m infatuated by that forbidden fruit the first day I walk into the distillery. That lean, whiskey-eyed, too-hot-for-his-own-good man hates me — and I can’t blame him. His family has been at war with mine for decades, and for good reason.

The Beckers and the Scooters are the Montagues and Capulets of Stratford, Tennessee.

But if he’s Romeo, and I’m Juliet? Well… we all know how that story ends — and for that reason, I tell myself to steer clear.

Because if my father finds out I’m falling for Logan Becker, my life actually will be over.

And Logan’s will be, too.

Add to Goodreads

Y’all.

Logan Becker is one of a kind. I know, I know, I say the same thing about Jordan Becker in my review of Old Fashioned, but I think that’s why I love the Beckers so much. These brothers, while they’re all so similar, they’re also very different from each other. Each brother loves their mother, unconditionally. She’s been though so much with losing her husband, their father, the man she was supposed to have the rest of her life.

And she’ll never love another man the way she loved John Becker.

Mallory Scooter has had her fair share of a crap life, despite her last name being Scooter. She may not have lost her father to a tragic, unexplained fire, but her father, Patrick is not the easiest man to live with, and she had to learn that at an early age. I feel for her, every time she brings up her past.

Logan Becker and Mallory Scooter are for real a modern day version of Romeo and Juliet and I live for it. This book was everything that I never knew I needed. The characters, aside from Logan and Mallory, are so important to the story and the progression of all of the Becker’s and I can’t wait to see how the rest of it pans out. Kandi brought the angst, like she does with every one of her books, because she is the angst queen.

While the description of this and all of the Becker books does say you can read them as complete stand-alones, I have to disagree because there is so much to discover about the Beckers, Scooters and the rest of the town that I feel you should read each book in order to get the full effect. What He Never Knew (Best Kept Secrets #3) by Kandi Steiner [Review]

What He Never Knew (Best Kept Secrets #3)
Kandi Steiner
February 21, 2019

I never learn my lesson.

And I always want what I can’t have.

When Sarah Henderson walks into my life, I tell myself she’s off limits. She’s my student, sixteen years younger than me, and my boss’s niece. It doesn’t matter that I see the same pain reflected in her eyes that I have in my own, or that the dead organ better known as my heart kicks to life when she’s around.

I’ve been here before, and I know how this ends.

It’s been two years since I fell for the last woman I knew I couldn’t have, the one with the ring on her finger that I chose to ignore.

Two years of trying to overcome that heartache when Sarah slides into my life.

Another woman I can’t have. Another woman I can’t stop myself from wanting.

I never learn my lesson, but with a constant reminder of how that last forbidden love burned, I think I’ve finally learned this one.

This time, I won’t chase what’s off limits.

This time, I’m staying away.

And I’ll keep telling myself that until I believe it.

Add to Goodreads

Oh, Reese.

I wanted his happy ending the second What He Always Knew ended. I wanted him to find his love, someone who understands him entirely. And Sarah? She is the perfect person for him, both of them are so badly damaged that they heal each other.

Sarah has a dark past, but both Reese and her went through something similar and now they have…perfection. The story that Kandi creates for the two of them is absolutely amazing.

And that playlist? The way she links all of the songs to the chapter they’re connected to is simply amazing. I’ve read books where authors create a playlist for said book, but I’ve never seen the links to the songs in the books. She gives us all the feels and don’t even get me started on the angst, we all know she’s the queen at writing angsty stories.

One of my favorite genres to read is the teacher/student type and oh boy, I don’t think anything can prepare any of us for this one. My heart ached, I cried and cursed Kandi an awful lot, my favorite thing when I’m reading one of Kandi’s books is to message her with a “Damnit Steiner” and that’s how you know I’ve started crying. Y’all, just buy this and read it. But do not, I repeat do not read this if you haven’t read What He Doesn’t Know and What He Always Knew first, it’ll ruin everything.

What He Always Knew (Best Kept Secrets #2) by Kandi Steiner [Review]

WHAK cover FINAL_1

What He Always Knew (Best Kept Secrets #2)
Contemporary Romance
Kandi Steiner
March 29, 2018

Left or right.

It’s that simple, and it isn’t simple at all.

If I turn left, the road will lead me back to the man I promised my life to, the one I’d imagined building a family with, the one who’s done everything in his power to get me back.

If I turn right, the road will take me to the man I loved first, the man who brought me back to life, the man who would do anything to keep me.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn’t know I had.

And I love them both.

My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves — one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself.

The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine too.

Left or right.

All I have to do is take a breath and turn.

You guys.

Please, please tell me you’ve read part one of this super angsty duet already? Or that you were waiting for part two to come out so you didn’t have to suffer like the rest of us and wait the two weeks. Even though it was only two weeks, it felt like a life time. I didn’t read anything in that time frame, although I did get the book a little earlier due to receiving an arc, to which I think I actually screamed over getting. So, if you waited, maybe skip this review until after, but if you didn’t, I’ll keep this as spoiler free as possible.

What He Always Knew picks up literally right where we left off with in What He Doesn’t Know and thank goodness for Kandi doing it like this, I’m always wondering what happens in between the ending of one book and the start of another or after the ending and before the epilogue. I know, the whole point of an epilogue is to let us know how things are going on, but my mind wonders years after I’ve finished a book.

I’ll be honest with you guys, I was #TeamReese for 95% of this book, at least that’s what I tell myself. I love Reese and I love how fiercely he loves Charlie, but the whole Blake thing threw us all for a loop. The other 5% of the time I was #TeamCharlie, part of me wanted her to all but say “fuck both of you” and end up being alone for a while. But that’s not what the book was supposed to be about.

You guys, I can’t even put into words how amazingly Kandi wrote this duet, not just What He Always Knew, but both of them. There were so many twists and turns, I didn’t know if something crazy was going to happen, if someone was going to die, which I’m totally not saying didn’t happen, it could have. I didn’t know anything. Essentially, I went in blind, but it was the best damn decision I made.

My heart, I don’t even know how to tell you what she did to my heart.

She broke it.

She mended it,

She made it cry.

She made me cry.

Damn it, Steiner.

I hate crying, but she does it more times than not.

I honestly don’t know how to put into words how this book made me feel. Just like What He Didn’t Know, I just want to type “Read it” over and over again and then call it a day. But I know, some of you will be disappointed in the ending, some of you will be over the moon ecstatic and some of you may not know what to do with your life. I promise you, it’s well worth the read, even if to find out who she chooses. But you can not, I repeat, can not, skip ahead to find out. You will never forgive yourself.

WHDK cover FINAL_1

What He Doesn’t Know
Contemporary Romance
Kandi Steiner

Cover Designed by Kandi Steiner

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

The house was
once magical, filled with love and joy and plans for the future.

Inside its walls are many things that belong to me — my books, the china from my mother on my wedding day, the beautiful cage once home to two birds, now empty, just like me.

And a man.

A man who also belongs to me.

A man I no longer wish to keep.

A man who, no doubt, has not slept, though the sun is rising. Because the house where he waits is where I laid my head to rest every night for eight years.

Until last night.

No one who knows me would believe Charlie Pierce, the quiet, bookish girl who never made waves is pulling out of the driveway of a man who isn’t her husband.

But they don’t know me at all.

I don’t even know me.

Not anymore.

They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I live inside of?

It has three.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

But there is no longer a home.

I knew, I knew when I first heard about this book that it would drive me up the wall, that I would go crazy waiting for the second part of the duet and that I would cry, because if you’ve read Kandi Steiner before, you know too. Except that I didn’t really cry, I wanted to and I knew if I were alone more while reading that I probably would have cried. Fat, ugly, snotty tears. I just can’t help it. I feel a little weird that I didn’t cry, but I hate crying in front of people. I am going crazy though, waiting, and the worst part is that I just finished this book less than an hour ago. I wont wait to start the next one if I’m lucky enough to receive an arc. See, because I’ve read all but one of Kandi’s books, I knew I wouldn’t be able to go on to something else right away and I had two other arcs to read first or I would have been mad at myself and tried to force them on me, I don’t like to do that, so I waiting, knowing that my best friend was reading about Cameron, Reese and Charlie, falling in love with them or hating them the way I knew I would, it just depended on the character and point in the book. But I finished, and now I’m here to tell you all that you need to read this book. It’s free on kindle unlimited and you can get a free 30 day trial if you’ve never used it.

You guys, this book. This might be my new favorite. Though if you know me, you know I’ll say that about her next book and every book after that.

I screamed.

I thought about throwing my iPad.

I teared up and if I were alone, completely, I would have sobbed.

I yelled at Kandi. It’s a good thing she knows I’ll always love her, because I was kind of mean. I’m sorry Kandi, you’re just such and incredibly talented author and I can’t help it if you make me mad, or rather if your characters make me mad.

I know, just by reading the synopsis that a lot of people will think badly about this book. Cheating is a sensitive subject with a lot of people. But I think you should still give it a shot. Don’t judge a book based on it’s cover, or covers, since What He Always Knew is a completely different guy on the cover.

I really just want to keep typing “READ IT” over and over again, while posting pictures of sponge bob and his need for water when he goes to visit Sandy for the first time. Please tell me that you know what I’m talking about? That’s how I feel about getting people to read this book right now.

Please.

Go read it.

And grab tissues.

And maybe some wine, or whiskey, whatever you prefer. You’re going to need it.

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

Elite (Privileged #2) by Carrie Aarons [Review]

Elite (Privileged #2)
Carrie Aarons

New Adult Romance
February 18, 2018

If you’re in, you’ll never have to ask. If you ask, you’ll never be in.

Eloise Mason knows what it’s like to live among the privileged. Seek a change from the upper crust society of Europe, she flies halfway across the world for a semester abroad in the one place guaranteed to toss responsibility out the window and provide some good, old fashioned fun; college in The United States.

Except nothing at the picturesque, Ivy-covered university in Vermont appears as it seems. And after a mysterious invitation arrives on her doorstep, curiosity wins over the need to turn her back on games meant for the rich and ruthless.

Secret societies, risky tasks, and an inner circle to rival the royals. But it may just be one American boy who threatens to be the most dangerous endeavor of all.

Colton Reiter defines the word idolized at Jade Mountain University. In fact, he practically rules the roost from the three point line of the basketball court. The college’s star point guard, he is a god and treated as such; professional scouts at every game, teachers looking the other way when it comes to grades, and girls falling into his lap at the snap of a finger. He wants for nothing, or at least that’s what he wants everyone to believe.

But when he meets the sassy girl with the British accent who could care less about his status, her very existence threatens to unveil the skeletons buried deep in the back of his closet.

With stakes this high, and hearts on the line, can they turn their backs on power and popularity before the ivory tower comes crashing down on their heads?

You guys, this book was amazing.

I know, I know, I say this about damn near every book I’ve read, but it’s true. Have you read Privileged yet? Yes? Okay good. No? That’s also okay. But if you did, do you remember Eloise? This is her book, and unlike or maybe like you, I just met her last week and I loved her in Privileged and I loved her even more in Elite. Things to know about Elite; this book takes place a few years after Privileged, so while we do have a small part where we hear from Asher and Nora, it’s not enough to be a big spoiler and you can still read about them after this.

Like the other two Carrie Aarons books I’ve read (I know, only two? I’m working on it) she gives us the added edge and suspense by giving us both sides to the story with alternate POV from Colton and Eloise, we know that they both have secrets and even though they really aren’t relationship type people, but they seem to click really well, fitting together like two sides of a coin. But then on top of that, Eloise is only there for the semester..Seems like there isn’t much of a chance for a future, or will something else stop them all together?

This should definitely be your next read and whats even better? It’s free on KU, so hop on that. But if you’re like me and can’t really afford that monthly $9.99, you can always do a free trial!
